Head of Data & Analytics (Melbourne) - Social Science Scale-up

About the Role

You will define and lead the company’s Data and AI strategy, crafting a clear roadmap to deliver first-class data products that empower customers. You will take full ownership of the organization’s AWS and Databricks platforms, ensuring they are optimized to support the development of innovative and impactful data solutions.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Data and AI Strategy: Develop and execute a forward-thinking Data and AI strategy that drives innovation and aligns with the organisation’s mission and goals.
  • Cutting-Edge Data Products: Lead the design, development, and delivery of data products that provide actionable insights, empower decision-making, and address customer needs.
  • Platform Ownership: Oversee the AWS and Databricks platform, ensuring their scalability, reliability, and efficiency to support advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence by mentoring and empowering a high-performing team of data scientists, engineers, and researchers.
  • Data Governance and Quality: Establish best practices for data governance, ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of data across the organization.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Work closely with senior leadership, clients, and partners to identify opportunities for leveraging data and AI to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Impact and Growth: Use advanced analytics and insights to inform critical decisions, contribute to long-term organizational growth, and deliver measurable social impact.
The Ideal Candidate: 
  • Hands-On Strategic Leader: A strategic thinker with the ability to remain hands-on in data science, including coding, building machine learning models, and developing data-driven solutions.
  • Cloud Expertise: Strong experience in managing AWS environments is essential, with Databricks highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Proven Leadership: A track record of successfully leading and mentoring high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Career Growth Potential: This role is perfect for an experienced Head of Data or a Senior Manager ready to step up into a Head of role.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced skills in Python, R, SQL, and the ability to design, implement, and optimize scalable data platforms and workflows.
