Are you an experienced Property Management professional looking for an exciting opportunity in local government? Our well-respected client in Maitland, South Australia, is seeking a Property Tenure Officer to join their team and play a pivotal role in managing council-owned properties and land assets.
About the Role As a Property Tenure Officer, you will work closely with the Director of Development Services to provide expert administrative support and strategic advice on all aspects of property management. This includes facilitating property negotiations, managing leases and licences, overseeing land governance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, including Crown Land and Native Title regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Property Management Coordination:
    • Manage land dealings, including governance requirements for community land revocation, easements, and road closures.
    • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements for Crown Land under Council’s care, control, and management.
    • Maintain and update Council’s property registers, including Crown Land, Crown Licences, and Leases.
    • Coordinate and prepare legal documentation for third-party occupation of Council property, including standard leases, licences, and permits.
    • Provide expert advice on property matters, including easements, registered documents, and historical records.
    • Maintain comprehensive records in the Council’s electronic land and building database.
    • Assist in maintaining the Council’s Assets Register in relation to Council-owned buildings.
    • Manage Marina Underleases and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Land and Road Management:
    • Manage the process for issuing Permits to Use Public Roads and maintain relevant records.
    • Oversee road opening and closure processes, including negotiations and community consultations.
    • Assess and manage the sale of unmade road reserves.
  • Cemetery Management:
    • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements regarding cemetery management and maintain accurate records.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Tertiary qualification in property management or a related field OR relevant professional experience in property tenure and land governance.
  • Strong understanding of land use and occupation requirements.
  • Experience in preparing and managing legal documentation related to property tenure.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation effectively.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise with various stakeholders.
  • Experience working with diverse community groups and organisations.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and databases.
